Fans at round two of the International New Year Series will have the chance to get up close and personal with the reigning Street Machine of the Year and its owner, Angela Dow.
Dow and her immaculate purple pro street ‘blown’ Torana will pick up their crown at Canberra’s Summernationals this weekend before being on display at Willowbank Raceway for the January 16 event, promoting the upcoming Pro Street Nationals and cheering on Dow’s fellow competitors in the Pro Street category.
A self-confessed ‘tom boy’, 33 year old Dow is a coal miner and heavy equipment operator from Brisbane, and couldn’t be more excited about her recent win and the growing profile of Pro Street racing.
“The Street Machine of the Year award is something that no amount of money can buy as it is decided upon by the readers of Australia and New Zealand, and it is so awesome to have won and to know that the public wanted my dad, my car and I to win the title,” said Dow.
“I am still coming to terms with winning such a prestigious award and by such a large margin – it is certainly overwhelming!”
After she picks up her crown, Dow will be trekking back to South East Queensland to take in all of the action of round two of the International New Year Series at Willowbank Raceway.
“I am really excited about taking the car to Canberra this weekend to collect the crown at the Street Machine Summernats, but I am just as excited at the thought of being back at Willowbank on January 16 and having the current Street Machine of the Year on display for the fans there,” said Dow.
“With the 16 car Pro Street field on track at Willowbank I don’t think the fans will be disappointed – Pro Street has grown from strength to strength of late and will go to a new phase in March with the Pro Street Nationals, and I expect some great racing next weekend.
“It will be a great exhibition of what Pro Street is all about – heads up racing with cars with massive amounts of power that still maintain a street car appearance – one to watch in particular I think will be John Wilson in his Magenta Pig 383 Torana who has been pulling some great numbers.”
Dow and her Torana will be located behind the Willowbank Raceway grandstands on January 16 for round two of the International New Year Series.
Round One was completed at the weekend on Saturday January 2, with the Australians drawing first blood with Glenella’s Damien Harris the standout for the event, setting up a mammoth rematch for national pride on January 16.
Also taking to the track will be the 16 car field of Pro Street as well as the leading names of Pro FX, the Gary Densham v Peter Leahy Nostalgia Match Races and a bumper support program.
The event will also feature fireworks and free children’s rides, with children 13 and under gaining free admission with a paying adult – making the International New Year Series the perfect family event this January holiday season.
